Cancer Affects Us All!

Sep

2012

Hopefully, the title didn?t scare you guys.? No, I do not have cancer.? But, I?m pretty sure we all have people in our lives we know or are close to that has had Cancer or has been lucky enough to beat it.? Because of that, Cancer really does affect so many of us and our families.

With that said, I wanted to encourage all of you guys to participate in local Cancer Fundraisers.? During the fall, there are a lot of Cancer Walks/Runs and other ways to donate your time or money.? And, with how many people are affected by Cancer, we really need to help find some type of cure.? You just never know who will get it, if it will be you, or someone you love.

My Grandmother had Breast Cancer but thankfully caught it early. However, my sister Alexi?s Father-in-Law just found out he has Brain Cancer- the most common and agressive form of Brain Cancer.? Mind you, this man has participated in countless athletic and running events including 24 Marathons, 50+ Half Marathons, and over 25 Triathlons including 3 Half-Ironmans?and 3 Ironmans! So it really does show you that cancer can happen to anyone.

I will be running? well, probably more like walking? a 5 K that they have set up in his behalf.? However,?ALL of the proceeds with go to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in hopes that it can help cancer research. If any of you who live in Utah would like to come, I would love to meet you and have you run/walk with me on November 3rd!? This event will help out everyone who will ever have cancer and show our support for those who need it.

Decision day for Ryder Cup captain Love

(AP) ? Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III was looking for a hot hand when picking four players to fill out his American team. Dustin Johnson and Brandt Snedeker delivered two performances that were very warm.

They find out Tuesday whether it was enough for Love to pick them.

Three weeks after eight players qualified for the team, Love adds four picks during a news conference Tuesday morning in New York. Jim Furyk, who has earned his way onto every Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup team since 1997, and Steve Stricker were expected to be chosen.

The tricky part was figuring out who would get the last two spots.

"Somebody is going to be really disappointed," Snedeker said after closing with a 67 to make one last impression. "And whoever it is probably deserved to make the team. So it's going to be a tough night for me and everybody else on the outside looking in."

Snedeker, who missed five tournaments (including the U.S. Open) with an injury this year, finished second at The Barclays and sixth at the Deutsche Bank Championship, which ended on Labor Day at the TPC Boston. Johnson, who missed the Masters during a three-week hiatus to heal a back injury, tied for third at The Barclays and birdied his final hole in Boston to tie for fourth.

No other candidate did that well, though an argument can made for Nick Watney, who won The Barclays. Then again, Watney had a poor year by his standards, and he left the conversation almost as quickly as he joined it after his win at Bethpage Black.

It's quite a turnaround from two years ago. The U.S. Open captain was Corey Pavin, who was desperate to find out which player was on form and no one really did anything. One of his picks was Rickie Fowler, the first PGA Tour rookie to be picked for the team. Now, Love has more options than he has choices.

"Davis has got such a tough job on his hands," Rory McIlroy said Monday after winning the Deutsche Bank Championship. "I really wouldn't want to be in Davis' position trying to decide who to pick."

Love has hinted over the last month that Stricker and Furyk likely would be choices. That leaves a half-dozen players for two spots, and Snedeker and Johnson emerged as the two strongest candidates based on their play the last two weeks in the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Johnson, despite his length and sheer talent, was not thought to be a strong candidate going into the playoffs. He did not perform well in Wales two years ago, or at Royal Melbourne last year in the Presidents Cup. Finding a partner has not been easy. But he made it difficult to ignore him the way he played Bethpage Black and the TPC Boston, both times getting into contention going into the final round.

"I've had a good past two weeks, so I think I've made my case pretty solid," Johnson said. "I guess I'll find out. I really want to play on the team. I really think that I can help the team, and it's something that I really enjoy doing."

On the bubble was Hunter Mahan, who was in the decisive match two years ago when he lost to Graeme McDowell. It's amazing that he didn't make the team on his own after winning twice this year, including the Match Play Championship in February when he soundly beat McIlroy. Mahan, however, hasn't won since the first week in April at the Houston Open, and he has had only one top-10 since then.

Perhaps the best measure of his form is that he was leading the Ryder Cup standings after the Masters and still didn't qualify. Mahan spoke last week of embracing the pressure of trying to make the team, and competing with an edge. He tied for 33rd, and was quiet after his round when asked what he was thinking.

"Nothing right now," he said. "Trying to figure out how I can play better, really."

Fowler won his last four holes in Wales to scratch out a halve that nearly proved decisive for the Americans. He won on the PGA Tour for the first time this year at Quail Hollow, but has struggled in recent months, particularly at the majors.

Stricker and Furyk, meanwhile, tied for 13th. Furyk missed the cut at The Barclays.

"Last week didn't help my cause, but I feel like I played solid this week," Furyk said. "I know they want some hot players. They want some guys that are playing well, and I guess guys like Strick and I are going to be hopeful that they also want some battled veterans and guys that have been there before."

McIlroy, who led Europe's standings, said he would be watching Tuesday morning because he was curious whom Love picked. Phil Mickelson said he had a good idea who the picks were going to be having spoken to Love. He wouldn't share so much as a hint.

4 Marines arrested in possible gay hate crime

By Miranda Leitsinger, NBC News

Four U.S. Marines were arrested for assault after allegedly beating up a gay man at a bar in southern California, and the attack was being investigated as a possible hate crime, police said.

The victim, a film student from San Dimas, was beaten unconscious early Monday morning outside the Silver Fox bar in Long Beach, Calif. The Marines, who were not identified by authorities, have been freed on bail, CBSLA.com reported.

The soldiers came into the gay establishment late Sunday or early Monday. One of them allegedly made derogatory remarks to the man, who was there with his boyfriend, according to media reports.

"You could tell by the tone of his voice that he [the Marine] was uncomfortable. He was making a demeaning remark," Silver Fox Manager John Barnes told the Press-Telegram on Monday, adding that the alleged attacker had called the victim ?sweetheart.?

The man, who told CBS that he did not want to be identified out of concern for his safety, said the assault occurred outside the bar. Witnesses said the men used homophobic slurs, the television station reported.

?He starts pushing me and calling me f?,? the victim said, noting that he later blacked out.

Two people who tried to help the victim were also attacked but either were not hurt or had only minor injuries, police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said late Tuesday in a statement.

?Based on the preliminary investigation, it was determined that an assault had occurred to a male adult by several male suspects after they had left the establishment,? she said. ?The Long Beach Police Department is handling this case and are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.?

The Marine Corps learned of the attack on Tuesday and was performing its own inquiry as well as cooperating with police, Maj. Manuel Delarosa told NBC News early Wednesday.

The Marines, based at Camp Pendleton in southern California, were in their first enlistment and were back with their commands, he said, adding that the attack was an isolated incident and that last year's repeal of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy hadn't come up as an issue.

"This is behavior that's not acceptable in the Marine Corps," Delarosa said. "Any crimes of intolerance are unacceptable and not tolerated as far as behavior expected of a United States Marine."

Pratt said police planned to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney?s Office on Wednesday.

Daytrading, Stock Trading, Investing and Forex Trading ...

When you're in some place where you need to earn more money, and you are prepared for a real challenge, you might find that having a quick look at daytrading will be ideal for you. There are several folks out there who've revealed that daytrading is the career that is best for them and one of the most vital things that you will need to realise is you can do it right from your house! Take a second to think about what is required to be a great day trader . The very first thing you will need for a job in day-trading is the time for it. We're not saying you need to be in a position to give 40 hours every week to it, or maybe 20. Do remember, though , the indisputable fact that when talking of being successful in anything, day-trading definitely included, you must be able to think up a schedule and to stay with it for an extended period.

And you do not mind stumping up for this kick. Please consider : You don't earn cash in this game by emulating what everybody else thinks, by hopping on the next hot indicator that other traders are talking about, or by making an attempt to prove how smart you are to the market by being a ?high frequency? retail trader. ) You like the concept of trading a fashion which has the highest possible cost ( commissions, spread paid, needed set up and technology, investment in ?learning how? ) and lowest possible margins ( money ? costs ). Troublesome luck for them, don't make the same blunder. ) At one time traders HAD to pay a lot to trade because all commissions were high.

This made short timescale trading not very much better than a bet at a casino. So ask ? how is it feasible the jobless rate would DROP when we had a loss of twenty thousand roles? How could we lose roles, and also reduce our rate of unemployment by 0.3%? The jobless rate that you're most likely conversant with does not include all classes of the unwaged. And the figures have also been ?seasonally adjusted?, which artificially skews the info. If you visit the Office of Work Stats internet site and really research the industrial info yourself, you can discover that, while the ?seasonally adjusted? jobless rate is 9.7%, the ?not seasonally altered rate? is really 10.6%, in comparison to the ?not seasonally altered rate? in December 2009 of 9.7%. So did the rate of unemployment actually drop 0.3%? Or has the information been manipulated to color a better picture than fact? But the unemployment nonsense don?t end there. When it is slowing down and you spot that there are not as many customers, that's when you wish to sell.

A good rough guide is to focus on momentum. Don?t hold out thinking you can squeeze higher profits out of it or you might finish up losing cash at the end. Stock option day-trading isn?t right for everybody so do not feel pushed into it.

Asian shares steady, stimulus hopes support

TOKYO (Reuters) - Asian shares steadied on Tuesday as investors saw weak regional and global economic data as raising the prospect for more stimulus from central banks to underpin growth, while Europe kept hopes alive for some progress in tackling its debt crisis.

Business surveys from the euro zone to China underscored a spreading contraction in manufacturing around the world as the euro zone's troubles took a deeper toll on their economies.

A 13-month-long contraction in the euro zone purchasing managers' index in August raised expectations the European Central Bank may cut its main interest rates at its meeting on Thursday.

Investors now eyed the U.S. Institute for Supply Management manufacturing data due later in the day, a key report that will help gauge the probability of further easing by the Federal Reserve at its September 12-13 policy meeting.

"The ECB meeting this week is important, but the U.S. ISM index will also be key, because if these numbers are bad there is a chance things will turn worse," said Chung Seung-jae, an analyst at Mirae Asset Securities in Seoul.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan <.miapj0000pus> was barely changed. The index fell to a fresh four-week low on Monday before recovering to rise on global stimulus hopes.

European shares inched higher on Monday, with U.S. markets closed for a holiday.

Japan's Nikkei stock average <.n225> inched down 0.1 percent to hover near a four-week low touched on Monday. <.t/>

The growth-sensitive Australian dollar hit a fresh six-week low of $1.0224 against the U.S. dollar and stayed near a nine-week low against the euro, undermined by concerns about slowdowns at home and in China, its largest export market.

Sluggish demand from the world's second-largest economy and leading consumer of raw materials have weighed on Australian shares as declining commodities prices, recently in particular the plunge in iron ore prices to their lowest levels since late 2009 <.io62-cni>, hit miners.

"The recent sharp decline in commodity prices has caused profits to deteriorate significantly, such that miners are now spending more in capex than they are earning. This is not a sustainable situation," said Credit Suisse analyst Atul Lele.

Australia's third-ranked iron ore miner, Fortescue Metals Group , on Tuesday slashed capital spending and cut its expansion schedule for iron ore production, boosting its shares.

The Reserve Bank of Australia is expected to hold rates steady at 3.5 percent at Tuesday's meeting, but surprisingly weak retail sales fuelled speculation for a cut later this year.

ECB PRICED IN

The euro rose 0.2 percent to $1.2619, within reach of an eight-week peak of $1.2638 set on Friday.

Markets were already pricing in the ECB on Thursday to at least outline its bond-buying scheme aimed at containing the borrowing cost in struggling economies such as Spain. Such prospects have help cap Spanish 10-year yields below a critical level of 7 percent.

"While the white swan from the ECB's announcement of a new bond buying program was welcome, we remain concerned that new white swans will be slower in coming," Societe Generale said in a research note.

"This is nonetheless what defines the main upside. In China and the U.S., the upside is defined by more policy stimulus. Our fear is that such initially white swans, medium-term would turn to black," it said.

ECB President Mario Draghi told European lawmakers on Monday the ECB's purchases of short-term sovereign bonds would not breach the European Union's taboo of directly financing euro zone economies.

"The comments were not meant to be public but of course raised market expectations of the ECB meeting on Thursday," Westpac Institutional Bank said in a note.

Separately, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said on Monday he was sure the country's Constitutional Court at its September 12 ruling would not block treaties establishing a permanent bailout fund, the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), and strong budgetary regulations in Europe.

The ESM, meant to succeed the existing temporary European Financial Stability Facility, will provide a crucial firewall to contain the euro zone debt crisis and the ECB's bond-buying plan is conditional on its deployment.

Precious metals rose on speculation for additional monetary policy.

The most active U.S. silver futures contract rose nearly 3 percent to $32.38 per ounce, the highest since mid-April, while spot silver stayed near a 4-1/2 month high of $32.31 hit on Monday. Spot gold rose to $1,696.91 an ounce, the highest since mid-March.

U.S. crude rose 0.8 percent to $97.21 a barrel while Brent inched up 0.3 percent to $116.12.

Asian credit markets firmed, tightening the spread on the iTraxx Asia ex-Japan investment-grade index by four basis points.

How to Build a Birdhouse ? Calgary Real Estate News ? CREBNow

Depending on your style, Calgary?s backyards can vary from a simplistic square of lawn to a green thumb?s paradise of terraces, stones, ponds and lush beds of flowers and shrubs. Further adding character to your yard ? as well as attracting the singsong crowd of Calgary?s many feathered friends including House Sparrows, Black-Capped Chickadees, Red- Breasted Nuthatch and Robins ? a birdhouse is a fairly quick and inexpensive do-it-yourself project.

Materials:
? Hand saw ? Hinges
? Safety G lasses ? Wood (plywood, barnboard ect.)
? Wooden Dowling for perch ? Waterproof glue
? Sandpaper ? Zero VOC house paint
? Hammer ? Nails
? Ruler ? Carpenter?s Square
? Power drill with 1.5 inch bit ? Pencil
? Paintbrush

1. Firstly, think about what kind of materials you?d like to use to construct your birdhouse. Wood is your best bet as metal becomes too overheated when exposed to the hot summer sun. Either draw out a design of your own, or consult garden magazines or the Internet for ideas on the style of birdhouse you?d like to create. Also, take note that certain birds prefer certain amenities when it comes to choosing a home to build their nest. Canadian Living says, depending on the size of bird you want to attract, your entrance hole can be between three and seven centimetres in diameter.

2. Use a carpenter?s square to measure out the dimensions for the four sides, roof pieces and floor of your birdhouse. Ensure your roof pieces allow for enough of an overhang that driving rain won?t fall into the birdhouse. A drainage hole in the floor of the house can be helpful for any water that may get into the house to escape.

3. Drill a 1.5 inch hole in the piece of wood designated for the front of your birdhouse, drilling a smaller ? inch hole just below for your perch. Using the waterproof glue, glue and insert the dowling into the designated hole. There?s also the option of drilling a second entrance at the back of the house to give birds access from both sides as well as providing ventilation. Some people prefer not to add a perch to the birdhouse as it provides easy access for predators.

4. Attach entrance piece to floor sides and roof using the glue and nails. On the inside of the entrance pieces, create grooves in the wood to help young birds exit the nest. When attaching the roof pieces you?ll also want to hinge your two roof pieces together for easy access into the house; once the birds have flown the coop you?ll want to remove the old nest before the house becomes home to some new feathered friends.

5. When painting your birdhouse use a water-based exterior paint such as Benjamin Moore?s low VOC Ben or General Paint?s Breeze. A lot of today?s exterior products are a paint and primer in one application but double check the can for directions on applying your paint to your birdhouse. The Scoop On Wild Birds and Feeders recommends painting the house in shades of tan, brown or gray as studies show that?s what birds prefer. Never paint the interior of your birdhouse.

6. If you?re mounting your birdhouse on a pole, metal or iron is best to prevent cats and squirrels from climbing up into the birdhouse. If you plan on hanging the house from or securing it to a tree, a sheet metal guard can help deter predators.
