? Say it with me: Aww.

There are few things cuter than a Sheltie dressed up as Captain America or a bulldog posing as Superman.

Dog owners and their pups went all out at the Krewe of Barkus, an annual dog costume parade in McKinney. Very patient pooches donned costumes, like the lovable Basset Hounds Minnie and Mollie dressed as Tinkerbell and Peter Pan. Hundreds came out to watch the pooch parade.

Better carve a few minutes out of your workday to sift through these adorable photos:

(AP) ? A remote southern Philippine town has gone into mourning over the death of the world's largest saltwater crocodile in captivity, even though it was blamed for the deaths of several villagers.

Bunawan town plans to preserve the remains of the 1-ton crocodile, named Lolong, in a museum to keep tourists coming and stop the community from slipping back into obscurity, the mayor said Monday.

Lolong was declared dead Sunday after being found floating on its back with a bloated stomach in a pond in an ecotourism park which had begun to draw tourists, revenue and development because of the immense reptile, Mayor Edwin Cox Elorde said.

"The whole town, in fact the whole province, is mourning," Elorde said. "My phones kept ringing because people wanted to say how affected they are."

Wildlife experts will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death, he said.

Guinness World Records had proclaimed it the largest saltwater crocodile in captivity last year, measuring the giant at 6.17 meters (20 feet 3 inches). The reptile took the top spot from an Australian crocodile that measured more than 5 meters (17 feet) and weighed nearly a ton.

Estimated at more than 50 years old, the crocodile was named after a government environmental officer who died from a heart attack after traveling to Bunawan in Agusan del Sur province to help capture the beast.

Even though Lolong was blamed for the deaths of several villagers over the years, Bunawan villagers grew to love the giant reptile because it came to symbolize the rich biodiversity of the marsh where it was captured. The vast complex of swamp forests, shallow lakes, lily-covered ponds and wetlands is home to many animals, including threatened species such as the Philippine hawk eagle.

Various religious groups offered prayers Monday and spiritual leaders also planned to perform a tribal funeral rite, which involves butchering chickens and pigs to thank forest spirits for the fame and other blessings the crocodile has brought, Elordie said.

The rite is to be held at the ecotourism park, where the reptile was a star attraction, drawing foreign tourists, scientists and wildlife journalists to Bunawan, a town of 37,000 people about 515 miles (830 kilometers) southeast of Manila.

The crocodile's capture in September 2011 sparked celebrations in the town. It was caught with steel cable traps during a hunt prompted by the death of a child in 2009 and the later disappearance of a fisherman. Water buffalos have also been attacked by crocodiles in the area.

About 100 people led by Elorde pulled the crocodile from a creek using ropes and then hoisted it by crane onto a truck.

Philippine officials had planned to construct a road to the park to accommodate the growing number of tourists, Elorde said.

He said Lolong will be preserved so tourists and villagers can continue to marvel at it.

"I'd like them to see the crocodile that broke a world record and put our town on the map," Elorde said.

PFT: Dolphins' stadium 'welfare for a multi-billionaire?'

Michael Vick, Nick FolesAP

Michael Vick?s new contract with the Eagles doesn?t guarantee him the starting quarterback job when the regular season starts.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly said at his press conference today that Vick and Nick Foles will compete throughout the offseason, and Kelly won?t pick a Week One starter until he takes his time to watch them compete against each other in minicamps, training camp and the preseason.

?There?s open competition,? Kelly said. ?Michael knows that. Nick knows that. Nick knew every step of the way what we were doing. I specifically wanted to make sure Nick was included in the plans. I think both of them have outstanding qualities as far as being quarterbacks in this league. Both of them have started in this league. I also know in this league, you better have two. I?m excited about the two of them. They?re both going to compete. Who the starting quarteback is will be won on the practice field.?

Kelly always stressed competition during his tenure as the head coach at Oregon, so it?s no surprise that he wants both of his quarterbacks to be ready for a competition in the seven months between now and the start of the regular season. If Vick is healthy and at full speed, however, his skill set would seem to be much better than Foles? skill set for the kind of offense Kelly likes to run. In fact, until Cam Newton, Colin Kaepernick, Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson arrived over the last couple of years, Vick would have seemed to be the prototypical quarterback for Kelly?s offense.

So Vick appears to be the favorite to beat out Foles. And Kelly acknowledged that he loves what Vick can do.

?I look at his skill set, how he can throw the football, how he can beat people with his feet,? Kelly said. ?For Michael Vick, there?s a change of scenery but not a change of address.?

The other change will be the offense. Kelly?s spread attack at Oregon was far from a pro-style offense, and Kelly says he won?t do anything just because that?s the way it?s always been done in the NFL.

?The game of football has evolved and I think we as coaches have to evolve with it,? Kelly said.

Vick in Kelly?s offense could be another stage in the evolution of NFL offenses. But first Vick will have to beat out Foles.

Video: Backlash after critic calls actress ?a female hippo?

>>> now to a controversy about a movie critics comments on melissa mccarthy and what society says about overweight people.

>> reporter: melissa mccarthy , an emmy-award-winning actress for the sitcom mike and molly and an award nominee for the 2011 movie "bridesmaids." the co her talents are on display in the movie "identity thief" having a strong opening. when the veteran critic rex read panned the movie, he zeroed in on her physical appearance, called her tractor size, female hippo and missed her career as a stud any in being obese.

>> it is completely below the belt . her weight has nothing to do with the quality of the film and rex reed should be a shamed of this review.

>> he said the movie is dreadful but the weight issue is the sole reason it exists. they criticize her. melissa mccarthy has some of the best timing around and all you can think about is the body type. we both know if she was a man, you wouldn't think of calling her fat. her representatives wouldn't comment. last year, she told good house keeping, sometimes i wish i were just magically a size 6 and i never had to give it a single thought. but i'm weirdly healthy. so i don't beat myself up about it.

>> i didn't know this was going to be this long.

>> reporter: reed's review came the same week that new jersey governor, chris christie went on " david letterman " to confront the issue of his weight head-on.

>> i'm basically the healthiest fat guy you have ever seen.

>> reporter: leading some to wonder if weight is one of the last socially acceptable prejudices.

>> i have put on a little bit of weight.

>> it is still acceptable to make fun of overweight people in a way you wouldn't make efun of a person of color or make fun of somebody because of their sexuality.

>> reporter: people should be judged for more than the size of their waistline. for today, john yang , nbc news, hollywood

The hautest dog didn't win Haute Dog SF | The Jet Set Pets

Haute Dog SF

Lucy looks sad standing next to Poncho, who won Best in Show and the Toy Dog category at Haute Dog SF, a doggie fashion show benefiting Canine Companions for Independence

It?s not that I?ve been drinking Hatorade this morning. I like Poncho. Really I do. Even if he did win medals that should have been mine. In my mind, I was the hautest dog at Haute Dog SF, a doggie runway fashion show. I don?t know what those judges saw in Poncho that they didn?t see in me.

We?re both 11 years old. We?re both longhair Chihuahuas. He?s a rescue. My mommy jokes that she rescued me from a breeder in Pasco, Wash.?I strutted down the runway. He came out right after me. His mommy had to practically drag him. I rocked a dazzling red bamboo outfit trimmed in gold designed by Fifi & Romeo Founder Yana Syrkin that accentuated my girlish figure. He wore a baroque patterned vest trimmed with red pom pom fringe, a shirt and a bow tie designed by Michelle Ducasse. Hrrmph!

The fact is I?m cuter. Don?t you agree??Well, I guess it doesn?t matter what I think. Congratulations Poncho.

Haute Dog SF Everybody Loves Lucy

Lucy poses for a photograppher

In all the excitement and my hurt feelings, I may have forgotten to tell him that afterward. His mommy teased me for wanting to come and play with her little winner after nearly attacking him backstage. The truth is, I just wanted some of the treats she was giving him after the show when some of us canines hung around on the runway. But if she wants to think I was being nice, then who am I to argue.

I know Poncho?s mommy thinks I have no social skills.?As we waited for the Haute Dog SF show to begin, I admit I wasn?t the nicest dog. But anyone who reads this blog knows that I just don?t like dogs. Since I knew that aggressive dogs would be tossed out of the event quicker than a cat runs up a tree when I chase it, I tried to be nice. But I just couldn?t help myself. I snapped at Zeus, a Yorkie, and Poncho. Bean, a Mi-Ki, knew to stay away from me.?My mommy publicly scolded me and said if only my attitude was as pretty as my outfit, then I would be a winner. That hurt! But sometimes the truth hurts.

Then I watched how Zeus and Poncho sniffed one another. Curious about what they were smelling on one another, I decided to give it a try. From a distance, I ?smelled Zeus. Not too bad. And then I turned toward Poncho. I don?t know what got into me but I got all up in his butt and sniffed away. Now I have never done anything like that in my life. I just couldn?t stop sniffing. I became intoxicated by Poncho.

I guess Poncho has that effect on others. Dogs and Haute Dog SF judges both. Congratulations again.

Watch me on the Haute Dog SF runway during and after the show:
