A Quality Mountain Bike Helmet is Essential Gear While Riding

One of the main reasons people suffer serious injuries while bike riding is due to them not wearing protective gear like a mountain bike helmet. It is a proven fact that in almost all incidents where protective gear was not worn the injuries caused in a biking accident were considerably more severe.

Bike helmets are a very important part of the protective gear you need to be wearing every time you ride. Falling while riding without a helmet can be very dangerous especially if you are zooming down a mountain. But they protect you from more than just falls.

Mountain bike helmets often have a face shield. This protects your face from low branches and twigs along the path. I was riding once and a branch brushed by the rider front of me, came flying at me when released by him as he passed.

It hit me in the head and almost knocked me off my bike. I said to myself that?s what you get for following so close and carried on. But I was wearing a helmet and didn?t get hurt. The thing is I could easily have been hurt. It doesn?t take much at times to have a major impact.

There are many different brands of helmet but let?s look at one. The 661 Recon mountain bike helmet was designed as an all mountain helmet. 661 has been making top notch MTB gear for over ten years. They have helmets of course and pad and make some great gloves. Its helmet has an In-mold shell, which is super light at only around 300 grams. It has a truly inspiring look and easily and quick adjusts to fit your head with its Detox fit system.

It is constructed with 18 vents and a special channeling system that keeps you cool while riding. The Recon XC from 661 is a top-rated helmet which is backed by the mountain bike industry.

One of the things you need to make sure of when purchasing a helmet is that it is an approved helmet. Another thing is that it fits you properly. When you start looking you will find out that there are two styles of bike helmets. One has a hard shell and the other a soft shell. There is no outer shell on a soft shell helmet as it is made with only one shock absorbing piece of polystyrene. On the other hand a hard shell helmet has a outer shell of harder plastic. While both might be approved as a bike helmet the soft shell helmets are not recommended for mountain biking as it doesn?t provide enough protection.

Mountain biking is truly a lot of fun but any kind of bike riding comes with some risks, mountain biking probably the most.

A quality bike helmet should be an essential part of every cyclist?s attire to provide protection from head injuries. They are recommended by both law enforcement and medical professionals. A mountain bike helmet goes on my head every time I ride and I trust one goes on your head too.
