With the start of the summer holidays just a few weeks away, how to keep your children entertained will be top of many parents? agendas.
The Sheepskin team have put together some fun and adventurous activities that everyone can enjoy on a family holiday.
The Royal Welsh Show
23rd ? 26th July
15 minutes from Red Kite Barn
The Royal Welsh Show is the biggest and best of its kind; the showground in Builth Wells is just 9 miles from Red Kite Barn which is currently available during this time.
The show is enormous! ? and many visit it over several days as there is so much to see and take part in! A variety of entertainment is on offer such as harvesting displays, stunt shows, The Regimental Band and Corps of The Royal Welsh and even Titan the robot will be making an appearance so really appealing for all ages. Not to forget the usual? trade stands that are often at agricultural shows and the showcasing of horses and cattle which children always enjoy!
Tickets that are bought in advance are at a discounted rate. For a? 1-day adult ticket is ?19, Children over 5 are ?5.00 and all children under 5 are free.
Alternatively, you can buy a family ticket for ?48 (2 adults and up to 3 children) on the day.
Travel to Wales via Cardiff
Many of our guests use the M4 to get to Wales. Why not break up the journey by stopping off in the lively Welsh capital of Cardiff which will make a great start to your holiday.
Throughout July and August, Cardiff comes to life with the UK?s largest free outdoor festival. With street theatre, live music, comedy and fun fairs. Not forgetting the deliciuos food festivals to discover or alterntaively take a? family picnics. Highly recommended by Sheepskin?s Lauren who lived in Cardiff for 3 years.? Squeeze the most into your summer!
?50 Things To Do Before You Are 11 ??
A recent article in the Telegraph titled ?50 Things To Do Before You Are 11 ?? sparked some interesting conversations in the Sheepskin office, we?ve even added to the list!? There was a lot of ?do you remember doing this, do you remember doing that??
An extensive list of wonderful ?Famous Five? type activities, put together by the National Trust is hoping to encourage children to enjoy the outdoors and go off exploring.? Here at Sheepskin, we agree entirely!
So many activities on this list that we think are simply great fun ?? even if your older than 11 ?!
Many of Sheepskin?s properties are surrounded by beautiful countryside with streams and forests on their doorstep. The best things in life are the simple things like pooh sticks, building a dam, climbing trees. All things that you and your children can spend hours of fun doing!
We thought about some of our favourite childhood adventures and have linked them with a property?
Check out the crazy creatures in a rock pool? At The Water Mill
The Water Mill in Snowdonia, sleeps 6 with an additional annexe to accommodates a further 2 guests with its own en-suite (great for grandparents!) The house exudes character with its 12th century water wheel that you can see turn from outside the house. ?Be sure to ask the housekeeper on arrival to arrange to have a demonstration and learn more about the mill-wheel.
At the bottom of the garden is a stream, a challenging run for a game of Pooh sticks while parents enjoy a BBQ on the spacious decked, terrace and keep a watchful eye.
The Water Mill has some availability during this summer, do check out our website for availability or drop us an email at the Sheepskin office at inspired@sheepskinlife.com
Go on a nature walk at Night ? At Manal
Manal, a traditional Welsh farmhouse, is just 20 minutes from Carmarthen but very much an idyllic cottage hideaway. With 2 double bedrooms, perfect for those seeking outdoor adventure with lots of activities on offer in the Brechfa forest.
The house is completely secluded with walks and mountain biking from the door into the Brechfa Forest. Here, the sheep are your neighbours in the surrounding fields making an enjoyable pastime watching them graze in the fields.
Go Wild Swimming ? At Red Kite Barn
Take your family off to explore the best wild swimming locations which are close to our unique holiday cottage, Red Kite Barn. Pack a picnic and your swimming gear and brave the Welsh waters! ?Please please please take care and never venture in dangerous in high waters or fast currents.
Elan Wye Junction Pool
We love this idyllic spot close to the village of Llanwrthwl, off the A470 road, north from Builth Wells and Newbridge-on-Wye and south of Rhayader. The wobbly bridge across to a hidden meadow is a must! ? 10 miles from Red Kite Barn. Check out the?Wild Swimming website for more of the best spots to take a dip?
Find your way with a map and compass? At Wayside
Wayside, a self catering family cottage, sits amongst a patchwork of fields and forests drape the slopes of this beautiful valley, the soft sounds of farmland drift reassuringly on the breeze. ?This 3-bedroom property is ideal for families with grandparents as there are two double bedrooms and a twin bedroom with 2-single beds. ?With walks from the door into the Aran Mountains it is a perfect place for you and the kids to map out some walks and practise your navigating skills.
Run around in the rain?.
We thought we would save the absolute best activity to last.
Wales has a mountainous countryside and is also close to the Atlantic Ocean so rain fall is higher than average. Don?t let it put you off, Sheepskin like to say?there is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes. So pack your waterproof and wellies and run around in the rain!
So go on, let?s encourage children to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and the fun of exploring and being?.. children.
Manal, Red Kite Barn and Wayside are all available this summer. What are you waiting for?
Check out the availability or drop us an email at inspired@sheepskinlife.com
