Nowadays there are thousands of options for crock pot recipes. You can select from the traditional pot roast to chicken stew to a more interesting enchilada or pizza casserole recipe. It?s possible to cook practically anything in a crock pot, but have you ever though about the plain old potato? Most people would not think of cooking side dishes in a slow cooker since generally these appliances are used for making one pot meals. One really great way to bring a new side dish to the table is by creating a delicious crock pot potato recipe.
A Bit About the Potato Itself
Most likely, you?ve never given the potato much thought other than whether or not to use one or two ?dolups of Daisy? on your baked potato. Potatoes are so common place we tend to stick with what we?ve grown up with or know best, basic mashed or french fried. The potato does, however, have a rich and interesting history, and can be researched as far back in history as four thousand years ago to Peru. However, when it was first brought to the European continent it was not exactly a big hit because the people at the time believed potatoes to be harbingers of disease. Wow, humans have certainly come a long way.
Tips for Storing Potatoes Properly
Now that we are no longer afraid of potatoes (although I am a bit frightened of the carbs at times,) they have a standard place on most family dinner tables. In fact, the average American person will consume over one hundred pounds of potatoes annually. That?s about one potato each and every day. So, with all of these potatoes being purchased and consumed, it?s probably a good idea to know how to store them properly. Cooking hard or soggy potatoes in a crock pot recipe will not work, so you will need a container to keep them in. Many folks opt for an everyday brown paper sack from the grocery store. Potatoes should be kept in a cool, dry location, preferably off of the floor.
Cheesy Scalloped Crock Pot Potatoes
10 large potatoes, thinly sliced
2 large onions, chopped
2 cans cheddar cheese soup, condensed
1 cup milk
In a small bowl, mix soup with milk. In crock pot, layer one half the potatoes and one half the chopped onions; spread one half the soup-milk mixture. Repeat layering using rest of ingredients. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
Do not let your crock pot be used solely for stews and soups. Get that nifty little appliance out and cook all kinds of wonderful new dishes, preferably a nice side dish like our Cheesy Scalloped Potato recipe above. This recipe is great for large groups and will travel well in today?s convenient slow cookers. Look for more great side dish recipes online at the numerous recipe and cooking websites available.

oh yah! mashed potatoes!!! yum?.. well its way, way easier to buy the dry potato flakes like Betty Crocker brands and prepare it like what the box says but instead of using mike like it says in the box, try using heavy cream! and be generous on the butter and add freshly cracked black pepper, salt to taste. Also you my be tempted to try adding garlic and onion powder too! add more flavor, substitute the water with chicken broth ?.. or you can try cooking fresh potatoes , just cook them till they crumble if you put a fork to it, Cut them up into quarters so they cook faster that way.The cooking time vary depending on how big of a batch you make, try using a hand mixer to mash the taters than just add the cream and butter you can heat the cream and butter up and add the seasonings then. its worth trying it

Roanoke, Virginia (PRWEB) July 30, 2012
Lakeside Analytics, Inc. today announced the introduction of the Home Cooking Academy online cooking classes, http://www.HomeCookingAcademy.com, the first website to provide a structured learning environment that focuses on both cooking mechanics and cooking thought processes.
?Home cooks today are in serious need of practical instruction on how to be creative, cook with what they have, and make meals not just delicious, but also attractive and aromatic. So much of cooking instruction today is either self-serve, assuming the cook knows what they need to know, or teaches how to follow recipes, said Mark Jala, founder of the Home Cooking Academy. That is what the Home Cooking Academy was created to address.
While on his own quest years ago to learn how to improve his own cooking skills, Jala attended local cooking classes, online cooking classes, purchased cookbooks and magazines, watched cooking shows, and visited recipe websites. He discovered he could make a recipe very well, but lacked the understanding of how all the information he learned tied together to make a consistently delicious meal. Through years of additional research, Jala developed his own exclusive training method he calls the MITPAC Formula which helps students understand not just the mechanics of cooking, but also the thought processes.
The initial response to the Home Cooking Academy has been exciting, continued Mark Jala. When a cook experiences my exclusive MITPAC Formula they finally come to understand how important everything is when preparing and presenting a meal. Learning how cooking methods relates to presentation, which relates to techniques, which relates to ingredients, is fundamental to creating a delicious meal at home.
I come across folks who wish they could whip up a tasty meal but dont know the thought processes of meal creation or what is compatible with certain key ingredients. I dont necessarily care where it comes from or the Latin name of it. I want to know what that ingredient goes with. I provide that information in the Academy, added Jala. Since we eat with our eyes first, presentation is important to build anticipation. I emphasize plating tips whether individual plates or family style buffet.
When a student at the http://www.HomeCookingAcademy.com, one will learn each month:
